13. Retiring Bernard King’s number is loooong overdue. I’m worried it’s been so long, young Knick fans don’t appreciate just how good he really was. King carried a Knick team that had no business pushing peak Larry Bird to the brink of elimination. Checketts prematurely dumped Bernard King like a sack of potatoes. Imagine a Knick roster with Patrick Ewing, Bernard King? The Knicks are their own worst enemy.

14. He was jealous of Jeremy Lin who was winning when he was hurt. When he came back to play his facial expression’s showed he didn’t like Lin. Lin brought the enthusiasm.

26. You don’t get your number retired just for scoring. He did more for his “brand” than for the franchise. He didn’t make his teammates better, couldn’t find a way to fit with Amare. Didn’t win enough. He hated “Linsanity” even though we were winning because somebody else was making it happen. NOPE

27. I’m not with it. I acknowledge he was one of the better players we’ve had for a long time. But he didn’t win. I get he had bad players but HoF, jersey retired type players get the team to the playoffs regularly. Even as a 7 or 8 seed. And he didn’t. He forced the Knicks to trade decent players that were gelling and winning cause he didn’t want to wait until free agency and wanted that super max deal. Knicks had to give up A LOT! His contract pay cut was $124 million instead of $129 million super max. He gave Knicks fans good moments. But retired numbers are for legends. For cornerstone franchise players that lead you to the finals. Or numerous ECFs. You shouldn’t have your jersey retired for good memories during times of irrelevancy.
