The 1916 New Jersey Shark Attacks Location
The Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916 were a series of shark attacks along the coast of New Jersey, in the United States, between July 1 and 12, 1916, in which four people were killed and one injured. This is the Matawan Creek location from those attacks. The book / movie JAWS was based on these infamous shark attacks.

Let me clarify that it is 1 mile to the Raritan Bay which then goes into the Atlantic Ocean. I hoped the map provided in the video would have made it obvious that I misspoke.
Bruh I live in Missouri and we have seen Bull Sharks. missouris is the literal Center of our Country ?
There could have been a flood is a theory I think I have heard about how a shark would get a mile and a half inland.
I’m pretty sure the New Jersey shark attacks inspired the book and movie 12 days of terror, not Jaws

The dead fish are definitely from chemicals being dumped
looking like a great ecosystem u got there
oh a dead fish every 2 meters … ah whoo cares right
Those dead fish are called American Shad and a lot of them die off during their runs, we have them here on the West Coast and towards the end of their run the river is full of dead fish
We used to sleigh ride down the hill as kids in Rose Hill….
I grew up in Matawan…I remember Miss Blau….. my 4th grade teacher telling us that story…..
I feel bad for the bull sharks. They just smelled the blood pouring from the butcher house and then are depicted as monsters for mistaking some kids for food.
? A Bull shark can survive in fresh water for long periods of time.
Bull sharks mate and give birth in brackish water, often going up rivers to find suitable nursery for their babies. Males often bite the females tails from behind during courtship… I wonder if there could have been some misplaced aggression from young males, or irritation from birthing mothers that lead to the attacks.
My great great uncle was killed by a shark when jetty jumping in Australia, it’s always interesting but extremely saddening to hear stories like this, beautifully well constructed video
Obvious a bull shark
This was an excellent video and well told by you. It was very interesting to see the family graves. As a youth I remembered hearing about this story so to see those actual locations in your video made it full circle for me. Thank you!
kool
Great back story
15:59 deu um frio na minha espinha . . . .
As a kid I was helping to clean out my grandmothers house and found a book by, I believe, the US navy on shark attacks. The Jersey shore report was one of the first. Shocking.
Hell yeah! Shot guns finding sharks! Now if kids died, it would go viral and ppl watch it on tick rock and they may bat an eyelash and that’s it
At least the family is together again in the afterlife
Radiation water
Interesting but sad. Thank You
Why are there so many dead fish floating around that can't be normal ?
I live 5 minutes away from there and drive over that bridge and see the train almost everyday
the amount of dead fish is SCARY
It was a Bull Shark that attacked the kids. I know an 80 something year old lady who's father was there when one of the attacks happened.
So many dead fish
Why so many dead fish?
Bluegreen algae is what’s killing those fish
Do Bull sharks range as far north as Raritan Bay? I always thought they were a warm water species.
