Holtz should never be traded
Marky was never asked to move His No trade clause. Some Guy in NJ thought he has good info and ran with it.Frank S made the mistake of believing Him. Pierre lebrun and many other legit sources have now said Marky was never asked to waive His NMC. He may have been asked eventually but the trade talks broke down over salary retention so they never had to ask Him. Just an update as i know You posted this a day or two ago when people were saying He was asked to waive His NMC.
we keep doing these band-aids with these older goaltenders and they have not worked out. I think the goaltending problem in NJ has more to do with their system than actual goaltending. This means Markstrom may not look as good in the NJ net. I rather we invest in a young goaltender that has a lot of potential.
I would not make this trade this is not worth it
Flames fan. We should not retain ANY salary. If the trade doesn't 100% fit don't make it. For too long Brad Trev made deals to just get it done and it hurt the team.
As a Rangers fan I'm glad the Markstom deal fell through. I wouldn't want to meet Markstom in the playoffs.
LGR not sure why the Rangers wouldn’t explore a trade for Holtz the devils needs Goaltending and defense which we have we need a young top 6 sniper it would be perfect for us both.
Remember Marty broduer played well till he was 43
Cgy hardly retains salary, I think the deal is dead because Cgy ask Markstrom to waive NMC and NJ then backs out. Now that they asked Markstrom to waive his NMC their going to move him, to Col.
Mock trade
Col- Markstrom
Cgy- 1st RD, Byram, and a mid prospect
Devils fan in the chat.
We're not giving up on Holtz.
Flames fan hete. I cannot wait to get rid of Markstrom, trade him for a bag of pucks for all i care. Only condition is, the other team inherits the ENTIRE contract. None of this crap where we pay some of his salary to make saves for another team.
the term you're searching for is trade currency.
Richard potential is a reach. Does he have the potential to be a 30 goal scorer throughout his career … yes. Maybe a few 40 goal seasons but unlikely he’ll ever reach 50 in his career.
Flames are in no rush to trade Markstrom.
The Devils need to secure a legit number 1 goalie with playoff success, if they have any playoff hopes. That's why they are willing to overpay.
Don't think the Devils and Flames are done yet negotiating.
I wouldn't have been in love with this move as a Devils fan and that's knowing what kind of season Markstrom's had. The fact that this deal, while dead for now, could be revived at any moment makes me nervous.
If Markstrom were four or five years younger and more consistent from season to season, you do the deal, salary retention or not, but this seems like a short-sighted panic move on Tom Fitzgerald's part.
Devils should wait until offseason.
I don’t like the idea of trading Holtz or more of the future for a very short term investment.
Calgary is known not to retain salary I heard.
Markstrom and Hanifin for a package of players, prospects and picks?
As a Devils fan, I'm so relieved that this deal fell through. Trading a 22 year old with Rocket Richard potential at his peak who's going to be an elite goal scorer for the next decade in exchange for a 34 goalie past his prime who's probably going to be retiring in 2 years or less would set this franchise back years. We don't even know if Toffoli will resign, and yet Fitz is planning to trade the guy who's supposed to be Jack's triggerman for the next decade for an almost 40 year old Markstrom? Absolutely not. Fitz getting that desperate to make the playoffs is horrible for this team. Just look at what the Islanders did to themselves. They traded all of their elite young prospects for old veterans and their window was slammed shut after only two years of contention as a consequence, and now they don't have any cap space left to resign Dobson. That will happen to us next if Fitz starts trading our prospects. Let them cook. This year is just a setup and that's totally fine. Our window is only just beginning to open. There's not need to rush it yet. I really hope Fitz doesn't, but this news has me very worried now.
If the Devils are open to trading Holtz, Calgary should consider retaining 50% of his contract even if it is for 2 more seasons after this. Holtz is already producing more value than his contracts worth. Holtz is a stud and fully worth it.
Holtz for Markstrom straight up isn't a smart move for the Devils. Holtz struggles with NHL-level skating but you can see him improving, slowly, every game. With salary retained, I could see it, as a "win now" move, but I'd only really feel confident about trading Holtz for Saros. This roster is promising but isn't good enough to win now, anyway. The numbers are way off.
At this point NJ should keep Holtz and wait for the offseason to address goaltending.
His contract doesnt suck. And its only for 2 more years. Besides the salary cap is going up. The flames are happy with his performance. Why should they retain.
NJ should not be making moves this year. They're a year away; let the young kids grow and find a goalie this offseason.
Unless it was above 2 mil/season retained thats a big L for Calgary
As a Devils fan I like Markstrom as a netminder but at 34, how long is he going to be serviceable? I'd rather Fitz package Holtz and other prospects for a goalie like Saros, Askarov, or Swayman and lock up a goaltender longterm over the next 7-8 years.
As a Canucks fan, that deal looks like the kinda that set is back by years
Short term gain for long term pain. It is almost never beneficial to trade a solid prospect for and old veteran player who essentially becomes a rental
I smell dirty pool by NJD?
I just started liking NJ even more. Love Marky
