Mini Jersey Cow – The Perfect Miniature Family Cow

Is the miniature jersey cow the perfect family cow? Learn about the mini jersey in this video from www.thisishomesteady.com.

Today we visit «R Local Farm» a mini jersey diary, to learn about the mini jersey cow and see if it is a good fit for homesteaders.

Visit them yourself this weekend for their Family Cow Forum and learn about keeping a family cow –

Many homesteaders dream of owning a family cow but worry about keeping such a large animal on a smaller farm or homestead. The mini jersey gives most of the benefits of their larger COWnerparts 😉 but in a smaller package.

Miniature jersey cows need less hay, can be compleatly grassfed, and can yield a gallon to 3 or more gallons of fresh raw milk a day.

  1. I feel like I remember you saying in one of your videos that you can stop milking mini jersey for a week and then go back to milking them, but I can't find it in your vids or online. Am I imagining that or is that true in some cases?

  2. Hello, I’m building a small cow barn. Space is very limited.

How cold can a cow handle without having to come in (I live in Canada)?

Could I get away with an 8×8 stall (for example where mama cow would calf?)

What about an 8×8 milking stall?

    Thank you

  3. Hi friend,????I sreebas Chandra barman,Bangladesh to,please its beautiful Jersey cows,quickly me agriculture's surprise now, Thanks!????????????????????????♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️????????????

  4. I miss fresh Jersey milk? I grew up on a 198 head full size dairy. To me nothing like a Jersey with a white blaze and a set of those curved horns that only Jersey's have ..i understand those with kids or if your uncomfortable around horns ..not all ours did and those that did we were taught not to stand in front of them ..even though all ours were docile they still have a mind of their own ..especially when it comes to sweet feed at milking time.

  5. Filtering would not remove the bacteria introduced on the straw and detritus, so I cannot recommend consuming that milk. Perhaps it could be used to feed calves.

  6. A filter will not get rid of bacteria or other dangerous organisms. Ridiculous. Raw milk accounts for 96% of dairy outbreaks and only comprises 2-4% of consumption. Giving it to children is like handing them a loaded gun.

  7. ok, I am ignorant….why does the jersey produce more in the summer? It needs less calories to stay warm so more to make milk or because it has just delivered a calf and ready to go again?
I love the cute look of the jersey, so beautiful and feminine to me. My wife loves the highland cow though. I want the jersey for milk…mostly ice cream!! She wants the highland as a….pet. I hear that the highland has a high butter fat too so that could be a winner. I am so glad you guys do these videos!
I need to figure out when all these work shops are occurring so we can fly up to attend one.
