3. This is really awesome. The Connecticut-class battleship my grandfather served on in WW1 (USS Kansas) could fit inside the New Jersey.

   Yes. They are ready to go to sea in 6 months or less as required by congress.
   Yes. I volunteered to work on the Iowa so I know what I am talking about.

6. That is one of the most beautiful ships ever made.

7. I was willing to give up my shore duty at Nas Miramar to get on that boat. For my rate they were saving all the billets for reenlistment incentives. So I didn't get it. I did see it get to beirut as the frigate I was on was leaning its gunfire support station heading home.

31. Why did you ever leave the New Jersey to go look at the ballpark? Would like to see the battleship from the air with no water. I was on the intrepid when it came in the dry dock number 5 back in I guess early 69

33. I hope the kid bluegill fishing in that dock knows the importance of that battleships history. That ship honestly did fight for our actual freedom.

35. A stunningly beautiful piece of naval architecture, and I never imagined a liberty ship would look so enormously bloated next to her. And can you imagine the amount of homosexual activity that must have occurred in her?

36. Notice thas case for those 16" 50 cat New Jersey has a much wider beam than the RORO ship next to it. She is lower in the water also. All battleships are built like that to provide a stable gun platform, in BB 62's case, for those 16 inch 50 caliber guns.

37. Whenever I look at that mighty battleship, it gives me goosebumps at the thought of landing on that flight deck (which I did) while stationed off the coast of Beirut, Lebanon in 1983. Hard to believe it has been 41 years but it is as clear as yesterday. The biggest "documented" memory I have is being there in Lebanon when our Marine Barracks were destroyed by a suicide bomber on October 23, 1983, during our Peacekeeping Mission. The USS New Jersey was there to give our Amphibious Squadron support. I hope others will chime in and share their thoughts and memories of being there in Beirut, Lebanon with the USS New Jersey.
