New Jersey – The US Explained

New Jersey. Despite being the fourth smallest state in the union, it is home to nearly 9 million people. While not having a single city whose city limits contain more than 300,000 people, it is the most densely populated state in the US, even more so than far smaller states like Rhode Island and Delaware. And with much of its land divided between two major urban areas, it still manages to contain some very sparsely populated regions. New Jersey, one of the most diverse states in the US, is the third place I will cover in this 56 part series on every state, territory, and federal district in the United States.

  1. One thing you missed was how easy it is to commute simply by hopping onto a train. Philly or NYC are only 30 minutes away by train from Princeton. The Northwest of the state is full of lakes, forests and wildlife.

  2. Great video! A suggestion about NJ history, you forgot Hat City! Aka Orange, NJ was the home of the Stetson brothers, Orange was the place to buy nice hats 150 years ago. And 100 years ago, a nice can of cold suds would be Ballentines ale, produced in Newark by Peter Ballentines family. His house is still in town as a museum

  5. love my state. i will visit the other ones, but i will never live anywhere else. theres just so much here to do and in such short drives compared to most other states! also i was slightly disappointed that Lakehurst, NJ naval base being the site of the infamous Hidenburg crash wasnt included but it's okay you packed a lot in!

  6. I grew up in North Jersey. Jersey City and Union City. I had friends from all kinds of places. All different religions and cultures. I feel lucky to have grown up there.

  7. They should use your videos as part of the school curriculum! Excellent stuff! In the way it’s presented the students will pay attention. It’s so much better than forcing them to stick their nose in a textbook ….that’s most likely outdated.

  8. Interesting. ?

  9. Good video about New Jersey but just like the news you mentioned New York way way way way way way way way way too many times!
None of our cities are satellite cities or suburbs of New York.

    Mentioning that you lose credibility.

  10. Focusing on the cities of NJ is generally more relevant in a historical context as today, besides a handful of cities that are going through long-overdue cycles of gentrification, NJ is really a state of well-to-do suburbs with highly educated/skilled residents who work in the major cities adjacent to it or for any number of multinational companies with headquartered in the state. Proximity to cities, among the best public transportation in the country, many of the best public school systems in the country, great private schools/universities, well maintained/designed highways, history, and a plethora of activities or various biomes to discover from skiing to beaches work in the small state’s favor. It’s a deeply misunderstood state with people from other states who know nothing about it having a lot of generally unwarranted negative things to say. It has the most millionaires per-capita of any state, most counties are ranked as being among the highest median income in the country, and many more town rank similarly high. It’s no wonder the cost of living there is on the higher end… the one thing all people in NJ will all unanimously agree on. Gotta pay to play though!
