I personally feel that each submarine should possess a fish's name in addition to the city/state/politician name. This would certainly alleviate the issue of having two active ships with the same name. Ie. USS New Jersey / (insert fish name) SSN796. Ryan, you've said before that the Navy doesn't let progress get in the way of tradition, apparently in naming submarines they did. There are plenty of WWII submarines, that, to quote The History Guy, "Deserve to be Remembered"

30. In this specific case, if BB-62 were ever recommissioned, the Navy could always call BB-62 South Jersey, and SSN-796 North Jersey.

31. I mean, the solution for reactivation could be pretty simple. You have a NEW New Jersey and a New Jersey, Constellation and Constitution didn't have an advantage baked right into their names. "New Jersey SSN-796" and "Jersey BB-62". It is impolite to suggest a Lady's age.
