  1. if the italian cop was such a tough guy, maybe he should've taken off his badge and challenged him to a fight rather than sucker punch him and use his authority as a cop to ensure he wouldn't fight back. Diaz couldn't speak the language but knows his neighbors told him 'Fuck off douchebags'. I grew up then, nobody used that word then and certainly not old men – Jersey or not. If someone cussed me out in Spanish when I was 8 years old, I wouldn't now say, some guy said "Vete a la mierda" but I didn't understand it until after being educated for 50 years.

  2. Growing up in the sixties & 70s in IRONBOUND N.J. mythical home of the Sopranos JOEY is correct about speaking English in public, my parents & I were born on the island, so my parents did this MY FATHER ONLY SPOKE TO US IN SPANISH ( he new English enough to be productive). WEST SIDE STORY still pervaded the psyche of that generation ?

  3. Let me say something about those cards they are called federal order of police cards or FOP they are not a get out of jail card it’s agreed with all cops that if they get one they should let you go but if the cop wants to give you a ticket or arrest you they will tear it up and make you look like a fool

  4. JOEY REFLECTS TRUE AMERICA.
HE HAS THE EXPERIENCE OF A
    90 YEAR OLD. THE DIFFERENCE
    BETWEEN LIVING AND EXISTING.
THAT IS WHY HIS MEMORY IS SO
VIVID. HIS LIFE EXPERIENCE PORTRAYED IN A CARTOON
FORMAT, WOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE HIT.

  5. I love this story, I grew up in Hoboken near North Bergen back in the 80s. As tough as those N.B guys seem today, they were terrified of us from Hoboken.
I had a little problem with a couple of those stugots from up there, I chased one of those motherfuckers with a bat and when he took cover in his IROC I broke some windows before he got away. They never came back again!

They were all a bunch of pussies.
