You wouldn’t think that you could find a remnant of spacious, country mountain living on the edge of the most heavily concentrated populations in the United States, but here it is! Warren County owns the luxury of close proximity to some of the nation’s largest and most vibrant urban centers, while far enough way to enjoy the peace and quiet of a pastoral setting. In fact, it’s the only county in New Jersey that doesn’t lie within the New York City or Philadelphia CSA’s.
PROPERTY: This 1.3 acre square-ish piece offers about 229 feet of frontage on the paved Quenby Mountain Road of Great Meadows, New Jersey. It’s zoned for residential and surrounded by beautiful homes and rolling terrain. The entire lot is generally flat, before the area to the south of it begins to slope upward along the side of Berner Mountain, which shields you from human activity in that direction and provides a scenic backyard view. Towards the north end of the property lies a fixer-upper cabin connected to power, perfect as a potential guest house. Hackettstown is just about 10 minutes away and offers almost all urban amenities — including a host of restaurants, shops, and even a hospital — and you’re 20 minutes away from Walmart, just south of Hackettstown. There are no structures on site, so you can build your near-to-urban mountain home exactly as you always dreamt it.
CHEAPEST 1-2 ACRE, FLAT, REGULAR-SHAPED SITE in the AREA . . . THIS SOLD FOR $95,000 in 2013!
You’ll never have to stray too far from home to get everything you need. Hackettstown, which was once named one of the top 100 towns in America by Money magazine, is just about 10 minutes away to the east and you’ll find big box stores like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Staples in and around the city. The Musconetcong River, a tributary to the famous Delaware, runs right through downtown and part of it has been named a National Wild and Scenic River. Urban legend claims that it’s home to a creature known as the Musconetcong River Mantis Man, a somewhat humanoid, somewhat insect-like creature, so look out for that dude!
Stephens State Park lies on the north side of Hackettstown and is an excellent site for trout fishing, hiking, and biking. Drive just a little further to the east and you’ll travel back in time to Wild West City, which offers 1800’s-themed rides and shows.
You can visit the historic Delaware River (think “Washington Crossing the Delaware”) by driving 15 minutes in the other direction (west). The Beaver Brook Wildlife Management Area sits close to its banks and offers some nice trails and clifftop views of the area. The Delaware, which roars out of the Catskill Mountains, is known as the “Lifeblood of the Northeast” and forms the border between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Naturally, this river offers a bounty of recreational activities and its gem is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which is only a 20 minute drive from your property, and shrouded in the splendor of the Worthington State Forest where you can hike to the top of Mt. Tammany for stunning 360-degree views of the entire region. For small tikes, check out the Crayola Experience, a little further away in Easton, PA.
Just 10 minutes to the north lies the Land of Make Believe, an amusement and water park sure to thrill the whole family, and Jenny Jump State Forest.
The Goldilocks Zone . . . far enough away for serenity, close enough to reach the excitement
If you’re moving here, you’re obviously looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, but sometimes you crave the action, right? Well, luckily, you’re not too far from one of the largest and most vibrant cities in the world, New York City, and downtown NYC is only 90 minutes away — placing this property in a perfect “Goldilocks zone” between your peaceful, natural oasis and the urban wonderlands. The City That Never Sleeps offers every urban amenity imaginable, of course, so if you can’t find what you’re looking for here, it doesn’t exist. Top attractions include Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, One World Observatory, Empire State Building, Broadway, Times Square, Staten Island Ferry, and dozens of wharfs and marinas. Between the New York Yankees, Mets, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, and Rangers, you’re sure to find a pro sports team to root for too.
