INSANE New Jersey Striped Bass BLITZ Fall Run 2023

Third year is a charm! I’ve been surf fishing New Jersey the last few years without much success. I had been stock piling knowledge, and it’s finally paying off! This trip Brother Max net me up there for a 2 day skunk. I stayed 1 more day and got into multiple blitzes of Striped Bass. Fun and Funny trip I wont forget.

  1. Unbelievable day of fishing, there must have been so much bait in the water, with all the birds diving and the fish you were catching, but you can have that cold weather, to cold for this Cali boy. Also 18 inches is the minimum here in California for stripers, great day fishing Kurt.

  2. Van Stahl's are the only way to go for surf striper fishing. You can bury it in the sand, go get your detector, come back and find it, dig it up, rinse it off and start fishing with it.
There's no bigger insult to injury then being in the water at that certain depth then having waves come in and smack you especially when you're not catching anything.
People think by now the stripers have migrated on by but we've picked them out all the way into February feeding on the herring and/or shad that run late. That's almost certainly what that seal was chasing. The good news is if a seals around then there's bait fish around, but the bad news is that there's a seal around. There's one thing that terrorizes balls of bait more then stripers and that's the seals and tthe stripers avoid being anywhere near those seals even if there's a school of bait shad or herring That seal might've been what's been keeping the stripers off the beach. Just because you don't see him doesn't mean he's not out there for a few days. A couple of winter ago we had seals hanging out inside the Barnegat Light inlet sleeping on the rocks then heading out to feed and the stripers were nowhere to be seen until they moved out. They came right up to us in the boat that's when we realized why the stripers disappeared.
I pulled the boat out early because I had a hip surgery. Next year it'll still be in later. You're more then welcome to come fish with us. Before the surf lights up the first wave of the smaller keeper size bass are active in the back bays behind IBSP & LBI because the peanuts haven't taken off into the ocean yet and we crush them with top water spooks and other the plastics around the sedges. There's nothing more fun then watching them tee off on top water lures. And the bonus on top of this is it's still kind of warm and you're not getting pounded around in waves or hiking miles in waders. Even though I have the boat I still like getting out on the beach in the surf when these blitzes come by.
My buddy and I metal detect too so we're always talking about new sites to hunt when we're in the boat BS'ing so you'd fit right in we've watch you detect for years so even though we haven't met it's not like we don't kind of know you as weird as it seems lol
Good luck on your next trip we fish that strip from the maintenance shack back to the boardwalk you might find a lure or two I lost there this fall lol

  3. It's nice being at the right place at the right time but when this is not in your favor then it's gonna be a LONG day, as per Surfers whether college students, vacation or just plain sick day it's a nice day and they will be there, Peace.
