  1. My mom is from Mount Holly, she grew up there in the late 60’s/early 70’s and had amazing stories. My grandfather owned a body shop and was going to run for mayor, but the local mob threatened his life if he did so. My mom was friends with one of the bosses sons. My Nana later in her life lived in Burlington. I’ve only been to Burlington when visiting family, and I have fond memories of New Jersey.

  2. As a person who has traveled all over the us and lived all over the states I can say that yes New Jersey does not deserve the bad reputation it gets i believed the bullshit as a kid and thought I lived in the worst place ever until I grew older and started traveling and wow there were so many places that are much worse and yes it’s new York media that started the bullshit

  3. I have lived in south and north jersey and I’ve lived in the south for some significant time in between and coming back to NJ was great. There are definitely parts of NJ I wouldn’t want to live in but there’s so much beauty here too. Plus in 4hrs you can be at the beach, in the mountains, in NYC or Philly. For how small of a state it is, it has a lot to offer.

  4. Super appreciate this video! I was surprised you mentioned that we don’t have wildlife areas like other states. I’m in sussex county and it’s all farms and mountains and lakes and forests. And an oddly small population. It’s not as large-scale as other states but it’s absolutely gorgeous. My mom’s from the pine barrens which is a very rural area too. Jersey has plenty of beautiful spaces but nobody goes here or lives here bc there’s little work or direct access to cities

  5. Just admit it, we're the cool kid in school and you all secretly want to be NJ. NYC is our backyard, the boardwalks and jersey shore beaches are our playground. We are represented more than any other state (not city) in movies and TV. We know we're the most hated and we feed on it. No other state has its own attitude like Jersey. We love our state and true New Jerseyans (even those who moved away) always know this is where their heart is.

  6. Can't speak to why anyone outside of New Jersey talks trash about it But I certainly understand Why anyone inside of it would despise it vocally and publicly.
Our government is dog shit trash.
Like most blue states, They have their hands into everything. Extremely business hostile, But of course only to the small ones. They love the larger corporations because they can milk them. The smaller guys get their heads stomped regularly. While it's true that roughly 20% Of new businesses don't make it past the 1st year, in New Jersey it's much higher than that. Our government makes it as hard as possible for new startups to occur.
They quite literally bleed them dry. Fines are too high and occur with regularity, Our regulation system is particularly onerous & conrruption is extremely common.
Anyone who's done business in this state understands how bad it is.
But on the upside we have celebrities !!! YAAAY!?

  7. I don't know why but when I was 19/20/21 I travelled to Boston, Maine, Philadephia, New Jersey, and New York. I had a great time in each place, though the Philly cheesesteak from Gooey Louie's in Philadelphia kinda outshined the rest of the places Jersey was nice, though while in Jersey a man I was chatting with at a bus stop scammed me for $2 – he asked me for bus fare and then walked away as soon as I handed it to him. 9/10 would get scammed again. I highly recommend New Jersey.

  8. Many New Yorkers secretly dream of moving to Florida… so much for our pride in the Empire State. The NJ bashing thing is more of two ego defenses known as projection and displacement. It’s a fascinating area of where geography and psychology come together.

  9. Part of the reason New Yorkers hate NJ is to make themselves feel less bad about the dump of a state we live. It reminds me of the rivalry between Louisiana and Mississippi, in a weird sort of way. It’s like we live in some kind of great comedy, and the Garden State is our comic foil. Personally, I love NJ. It’s like Long Island if it were a state. I have a bunch of cousins out there in Robbinsville. Back in 2018, I went to Menlo Park and had a great time.

  10. Sure, NJ is widely abhored. Many New Yorkers, like myself, engage in a lot of self-loathing as well. “My Dinner with Andre” (1983) has a great deal of truth to it. Furthermore, NY has many people that talk trash about it and this is not just people in New England, Down South, or out west. There are many people that would compare NYC to Babylonia, or perhaps even to Hell itself. Yes, there are New Yorkers that have pride in this place, but even the late George Carlin was cynical of both the so-called “capital of the world” and the Empire State.

  11. Love Jersey, lived here all my life. Might as well be 2 states. North Jersey and South Jersey are 2 totally different places. Proud to be a Piney from my head down to my Hiney in South Jersey.

  12. As someone from nj, I cannot stress enough that shoobies shouldn’t come here. There is nothing here for you to do. Stay out. It would be better if you went to ny or pa. Just not nj. Absolutely no reasons for you to come here. Do not even think of traveling to nj. Hell, don’t even go to newark air. Just stay out. Nothing here for you to do.

  13. I was born and raised in Trenton, NJ. Just have to tell you, our accents do not sound the way you presumably think we sound like, in your Japanese knives commercial. That's more of a fictionalized "wise guy" or "The Godfather" gambino or pisan New York City accent. Go visit Jersey for yourself. You'll find out that there are three very distinct accents in New Jersey, from north Jersey accent, to middle Jersey accent, to south Jersey accent. The food is excellent, the people are rude, they're just brutally honest. New Jersey natives are the most friendliest, accommodating, outgoing and warm people on the east coast. If you do ever visit New Jersey, a fair warning to you… don't visit these cities… The City of Trenton (the borough of Trenton/Mercer County and Hamilton Township are safe enough) Camden, Jersey City, all of the Elizabeths, totally avoid Newark like you'd avoid a plague…. ? Better still, totally avoid all the bigger cities in New Jersey and just stick to the suburbs and you will be treated like an ambassador from a foreign country…they'll pull out all the stops for you, feed you well and make you feel important. ?

  14. I was born and raised in NY and it's true when I moved to NJ for a year and some change , once people knew I was from New York they kinda didn't want no parts of being cool with me, and I loved it ?

  15. Well for starters … if you are coming in to Jersey my way via NYC and you decide to stop within 5 miles outside the city one is assaulted by rank shite smell … once I’m past that I get a little less upset… I miss Roy Rogers in a rest stop or two, love me some Amish Market action … processed meats and sausage of many variety… it’s not so bad

  16. If you drive in Jersey and want to drive at a leisurely pace, please get the fuck out of the left lane. No seriously, get the fuck out of the left-fuckin lane.

Also, you can’t just make left turns in the middle of the fuckin highway. You out-of town c*nts never heard of a jughandle?
Oh, and get the fuck out of my left lane, for real.

  17. hey man, i appreciate this video as someone born and raised in South Jersey! though people dont realize while its massly populated, its a state of small towns with a ton of farm land and pine lands with parks that stretch all across the entire state! there are actually some incredible sights to see here and loads of beautifully lush protected lands, guess you just gotta be here to see all its beauty ??
P.S- i’ve literally only ever seen power plants near Philly and New York honestly so i can see why it may appear that way all around but honestly a majority of this state is farmland and pines!

  18. As a fellow Jersey resident, the critique of the tolls is absolutely true. Jersey is the little brother of Philly and NY, so it always gets picked on. It's not a bad place to live but it is one of the most densely populated states. Property is pricey, and it can be kinda boring depending on where you are.

  19. Never understood the hate over New Jersey. We have some of the best schools, nicest suburbs, nicest year-round weather (it doesn't usually get to above 90 or below 30 and it's often sunny), and best infrastructure in the country. NJ gets a bad rap because of cities like Camden, Trenton, and Newark, but most of these cities are actually pretty nice. In fact, Trenton and Camden aren't even in the top 100 cities in crime rate in the US, and Newark is only 73rd nationally (below Philadelphia). It's also ironic that New Yorkers keep talking about tolls, when it's our state government that keeps telling theirs not to.

  20. born and raised in new jersey for 20 years. and can i just say that Jersey people don’t know how to fucking drive! maybe it’s in every state tho idk. but can y’all start using your blinkers, stop at fucking stop signs, stay in your lane and stop swerving at my car. i have almost died countless of times cause of you idiots that somehow got your license.
that’s the worst thing i can say about my home state. LEARN HOW TO DRIVE IM NOT TRYNA DIE
