New Jersey high school team denied upset victory on buzzer-beating shot!

Video from the NJSIAA Group II championship game between Camden and Manasquan shows that Manasquan’s Griffin Linstra scored what looked like the winning basket with the clock running down to zero. The refs reversed the play. There is no video review in NJ high school basketball, so the decision by the refs and Camden’s victory stands, the NJSIAA said in a statement. (Video via Storyful)

21 pensamientos sobre “New Jersey high school team denied upset victory on buzzer-beating shot!

  1. ‘Denied victory’ is an absolutely correct headline.
This wasn’t a split second/could go either way call…this was plainly and obviously a good basket.
Even though another angle shows the ball being released with .5 seconds remaining that’s really not even needed. The buzzer going off after the ball is at the rim is all that’s needed.
Referees (or the referee that overruled the ref calling the basket good) took this victory from the winning team.

  2. I grew up in Camden, NJ and this was a Basketball Tragedy . Manasquan should be invited to the Tournament of Champions in New Brunswick. That’s the only way to maybe remedy this catastrophe. I don’t understand, in 2024 why there is NO video replay during playoffs basketball . ???‍???

  3. Even the Camden players knew it was good. The players reactions tell the story. Regardless its over. One of the best teams in Nj was upset but it didn't count.
Feel bad for the Camden kids. They know they lost

  4. Everything network is showing this clip, but they are NOT showing the game clock and the refs saw! Yes, in slow motion, it shows the shot was good, but that's not what at least w refs saw. It's sad, but it happens, unfortunately.

  5. Other videos show the shot leaving his hand with 0.5 seconds left. The ball was on the rim at 0.00, so assuming the buzzer went off at 0.00 and no light – this wasn't even close. Bad look for these refs, and the state high school athletic department for not overturning. Hopefully there is time for someone in authority to step up and do the right thing, but with this being New Jersey, I doubt that will happen.
