New Jersey's new driver's licenses under fire

The state’s new driver’s licenses are being called ‘fake’ and ‘bootleg’ and some people report having problems using them as a legitimate ID.

The new licenses are no longer printed at Motor Vehicle Commission offices but are now printed and mailed from a central facility.

  1. 80% of all state-issued driver licenses and identification cards are now made in one central manufacturing plant in California by L-1 Identity Solutions which is part of IDEMIA which in turn is owned by the private equity firm Advent International, headquartered in Boston. And in Canada, territorial and provincial government-issued driver licences and photo identification cards are now made by companies such as Gemalto, a part of the Thales Group (Quebec, the four Atlantic provinces) and Veridos (Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan). Why all the outsourcing? To put all those new standardized security features on polycarbonate cards. And to do facial recognition comparison of all previous photos on file at the DMV of the card holder in an effort to confirm their identity and to prevent identity theft.

  2. There is nothing “secure” with NJ license. Very few security features and easy to forge. Seriously. This DL get a 2/10 for security. The only security feature I can see is a badly designed logo under UV light.

  3. HORRIBLE!!! I GENTLY TOSSED IT UNDER HANDED IT ON MY KITCHEN TABLE THE FIRST DAY IT ARRIVED AND IT LITERALLY CRACKED IN HALF!! I WAS DENIED A JOB BECAUSE OF IT. FEEBLE MATERIAL THAT COST THE STATE .05 CENTS WILL NOW COST ME 50 BUCKS TO GET A NEW ONE!? NEW YORK IS GARBAGE!! FK NYS!

  4. I recently got my probationary license a few months ago! I enjoy driving. I disagree with the naysayers. I like the look of my license. I am not sure why people are saying it looks fake. That surprises me!

  5. Ids should be free provided by the government since those guys are making us get one in the first place… who much BS in this world, I can’t deal with it ?

  6. New Jersey's new license. Did they put some kind of ID on the license for illegal immigrants that hold a driver's license that will show that they cannot vote? I don't think so because they want illegal aliens that have a driver's license to vote. That was a whole purpose of letting illegal people get a driver's license in the first place. Their license should have had a special marking on and so when they try to register to vote a red flag goes up

  7. That's messed up.
Now, it even says it's not an id.

I tried it with Coinbase, and it was rejected.

Now, to turn it into an actual id they asked me to go to some DMV far away without even parking.

What's wrong with the DMV here. Aren't they good enough to issue a valid form of identification?

  8. That’s great they notified all the police and jersey but what about out-of-state police officers someone’s going to spend the night in jail because a pencil pusher thought it was a bright idea to plaster not for real ID on a state I.D

  9. I don't remember the year but here in Alabama they changed the look of the DL's & didn't tell law enforcement evidently because I was briefly detained during a traffic violation stop. I wasn't worried because I got mine at the probate office so I kinda knew/hoped it would get cleared up. It did but that wasn't the only time/place it was questioned.
